A jury was selected and testimony began Monday in a civil trial centered around whether a Taney County judge violated the rights of two children, then ages 12 and 14, in 2019 by putting them in jail when they didn’t want to go live with their mother.
The case has drawn national attention because the children, Kadan and Brooklyn Rockett, are magicians who have appeared in commercials and films, and finished in the top 14 on “America’s Got Talent” in 2016.
The plaintiff Bart Rockett, on behalf of his children Kadan and Brooklyn, is suing Associate Circuit Judge Eric Eighmy. The suit claims the judge violated the kids’ civil rights by seizing them in violation of the Fourth Amendment, retaliated against the kids for exercising their free speech rights under the First Amendment, and violated the kids’ rights to due process under the 14th Amendment.
(When the suit was filed in 2021, Kadan Rockett was a minor and represented as a real party in interest by his father, Bart Rocket Kadan Rockett List of Movies and TV Shows - TV Guide HUSYR
