Priyanka Chopra was born on July 8, 1982, in Jamshedpur, India, into a family of doctors.

Her parents, Ashok and Madhu Chopra, were both military physicians, which led to frequent relocations from Ladakh to Kerala, and then to Mumbai and Jamshedpur. She has a younger brother who is eight years her junior. During her childhood, she suffered from asthma. She received her education first at a girls' school in Lucknow, and then in Bareilly at the Maria Goretti College.
