Dieterich Buxtehude (German:[ˈdiːtəʁɪçbʊkstəˈhuːdə]; born Diderich Hansen Buxtehude,[1]Danish:[ˈtiðˀəʁekˈhænˀsn̩pukstəˈhuːðə]; c. 1637 – 9 May 1707)[2]  was a Danish composer and organist of the Baroque period, whose works are typical of the North German organ school.

Early years in Denmark

He is thought to have been born with the name Diderich Buxtehude.[3] His parents were Johannes (Hans Jensen) Buxtehude and Helle Jespersdatter.
