Matt Steinglass is the deputy Europe editor of The Economist.

He began writing and blogging for The Economist in 2009 on America and South-East Asia, and later served as Netherlands correspondent, and deputy Europe editor,  Central and Eastern European correspondent and most recently Europe editor. From 2011-13 he was Netherlands correspondent for the Financial Times. Previously he wrote for the Boston Globe and a variety of other publications in West Africa and then in Vietnam.

Before becoming a journalist, he spent several years as a website producer for startup companies and as a screenwriter of animated television shows for Disney and Nickelodeon. He studied Russian history and literature at Harvard and interactive telecommunications at New York University, and is the author of many episodes of the children’s cartoon series “Arthur”.
